Meet the skilled team who embody discipline, strength, and mastery, driving our journey to martial arts excellence.
ANTHONY CLAYDON
I achieved my 1st Degree Black Sash in Kung Fu and 1st Dan in Karate in 1990. Shortly after, I began teaching my first classes, specialising in teaching children and coaching competition fighters. I am currently a 6th Degree Black Sash, 3rd Dan Black Belt in Kickboxing and 2nd Dan Black Belt in Karate.
I competed successfully for many years in Kung Fu, Karate, Kickboxing & Freestyle tournaments winning many titles along the way. I have represented Great Britain at the WAKO European Championships and the IAKSA World Championships. After winning the 2016 WAKO British Championships, I stepped away from competing to focus on coaching our established fighters and developing new members for the already successful NEXUS fighting squad as we continue to compete in tournaments around the world.
It has always been a goal of mine to have a full time Studio and I’m proud to be Chief Instructor and founder of ‘NEXUS Martial Arts and Fitness’.
LAURA WILLIAMS
As a Senior Instructor at NEXUS, I am responsible for the day to day running of the Studio. I teach and train at different classes throughout the week and in my teaching I use my experience from competing both Nationally and Internationally, and from representing Britain at the IAKSA World Championships.
I have trained with Anthony for over twenty-five years and during this time, I have achieved a 4th Degree Black Sash in Kung Fu and a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Kickboxing.
I appreciate that people find their path into Fitness and Martial Arts in many different ways, growing up I was not particularly sporty and the only activity I regularly participated in was horse riding. It was only at the age of seventeen when I wanted to try something new, as well as learn self-defence, that I started Kung Fu and Kickboxing classes. I found them an excellent and enjoyable way to improve my fitness, flexibility and coordination, as well as learning to defend myself. Now it is a way of life which I would not be without.
TIM BUDGEN
I started training in Anthony’s class with my mum in 2002. It was a fantastic activity for both of us to share together and training with a mix of people really helped build my confidence at a young age and aid my physical development. I currently hold a 1st Degree Black Sash in Kung Fu and have started to take a more active role on the competition circuit.
During my time training, I developed a love of teaching which contributed towards me achieving a degree in Primary Education (Initial Teacher Training).
The knowledge gained during my degree studies helps me understand how children learn and how best to keep them engaged, interested and motivated! I am now putting these skills to use assisting with teaching some of the NEXUS classes and helping to prepare the Junior students for their gradings.
In addition to my teaching qualification, I also now work in Law Enforcement. All the years’ training with NEXUS has helped my discipline and fitness – crucial for this job! Very importantly too, training with NEXUS has given me the skills and confidence to defend myself and protect others on a daily basis, another major part of my role.

NEXUS Martial Arts has a 25 year history of Martial Arts training excellence.
Gordon’s passion for kickboxing and training others has resulted in the production of world champion kickboxers, as well as the development of fitness training, family sports, and children classes.
Today, the focus of the NEXUS service and provision is to fulfil the clubs mission of ‘developing champions for life’. In alignment with Gordon’s values, vision and mission, NEXUS aims to offer the support and development of Martial Arts and associated life skills to as many people in the Warwickshire area as possible, including the provision of character development skills and curriculum programmes for children, and fitness, skills and curriculum programmes for adults.
